Flash Talk: The Proliferation of Carded Purchases in the Spanish-Language Underground

Flash Talks is an exclusive Flashpoint speaker series where our analysts share insights from the Deep & Dark Web and examine today's increasingly complex threat landscape.

Carded purchases — items purchased with stolen credit card information — are known as “compras” among Spanish-speaking cybercriminals, and are a frequent subject of chatter in the Spanish-language underground. Actors skilled in carding routinely offer their services to members of the Spanish-language underground community, selling the carded items to clients at a discounted rate.

This Flash Talk details how Latin American fraudsters conduct "compras" against both Latin American and US-based companies, highlights the motivations these threat actors possess in conducting this type of fraud, and explores the relationship between compras and reshipping services to send and receive carded goods and other fraudulently obtained items internationally.
